Born
in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada, Joel Adimathra comes from a musical background. He had his first piano lesson at the age
of five, and learned the basics from his father, a musician as well. A couple of years later, he won a first division rating
in the elementary level of the young pianists competition in McAllen, Texas. It was there he studied with Ann Stone, an eminent
pianist in the Rio Grande Valley, and Iby Kovacs, a graduate of the Franz Liszt Conservatory in Budapest, Hungary.
At the age of fifteen, he moved to Houston and studied under
the tutelage of Dr. Jerico Vasquez, a pupil of Betty Ruth Tomfohrde and Abbey Simon, an internationally acclaimed concert
pianist. During his studies, Joel Adimathra has won lots of prizes and awards in Houston, Texas such as: first place at the
2007 Blinn College Young Artists Competition, second place in the HMTA Piano Concerto Competition, and First Divisional Ratings
in the State Piano Solo and Ensemble Competition at the University of Texas - Austin.
Not only is Joel is a pianist, but he is a singer as well. He was very active in his high school choir.
Not only did he serve as a section leader in his choir, but later served as the President of his Choir Organization. He has
won numerous prizes for singing, especially receiving first divisional ratings in the State Solo and Ensemble Competition
at the University of Texas - Austin.
He is
the choir director at Disciples United Methodist Church, and teaches piano to people of all ages.
